WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH TAEKWONDO?
I first started Taekwondo in Beaumont, TX with Marv Conway. I was with Mr. Conway for five years. During those five years, I studied with various Martial Arts Instructors in the summers. I studied with a Gung-Fu stylist, Karate stylist, a Kickboxer and a Jeet Kune Do stylist. During college I studied Shorin-Ryu and Olympic Style Taekwondo with Dr. Tom Seabourne. Seabourne was and is a mentor of mine and inspired me to enter the fitness world. Recently in South Beach, I studied boxing and trained boxers in Strength and Conditioning. Currently, I am working with Master Greg Tubbs and his athletes at GT Sport Taekwondo in Dallas, Texas.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR TAEKWONDO?
I wish I could recommend books for Taekwondo. Most of what I have seen has been very generic and of no use to the advanced Taekwondo athlete. There are a number of books I find helpful in a limited capacity because they have aren't specific to Taekwondo. My biggest concern with Taekwondo books is that they are either too generic or too scientific. I try to write very accessible, practical programs that anyone can understand and that everyone can succeed with.

WHO INSPIRES YOU?

I can't tell you how many books and documentaries I have read on Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali. As a child, it was their image that motivated me. As a man, it is their story that moves me. They are both extraordinary men who overcame astonishing odds.

WHERE DID YOU LEARN ABOUT STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING?
I try to take as much knowledge as I can from many different sources and resolve the truths in all. If you are scientifically minded, I recommend you reading my books, Tom Seabourne's, Pavel Tsatsouline's, Charles Staley's, Tom Kurz's, Tudor Bompa's and Mel Siff's - in that order. Each author is a little less accessible to the general public in their expertise and their language.

WHY DID YOU BECOME A STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH FOR TAEKWONDO?

My first love is the martial arts. My profession is fitness. I took my passion and profession and made them one and the same. I encourage everyone else to do so. I love my work and find it very rewarding to work with people just like you. I wake up every morning excited about what the day will bring!
